Feb 14th: Tom Benzing–“Fishing for Landlocked Salmon and Large Brook Trout in Maine.”

Tom Benzing is a professor in the Department of Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University. Tom earned his PhD in crop and soil science/environmental toxicology from Michigan State University and he has worked as a research scientist for the South River Science Team and for the Shenandoah River Fish Kill Task Force. His research interests include: water quality of rivers and streams, soil and water chemistry, nutrient management for sustainability, and trout conservation and habitat restoration.

Tom is a past president of the Massanutten Trout Unlimited chapter and currently serves as the faculty advisor for Madison Flyfishers. Tom is an avid fly fisherman and he regularly guides the Madison flyfishing club two outings on the South Holston River. His presentation in February is titled “Fly Fishing for Landlocked Salmon and Large Brook Trout in Maine.”

  1. Take 33 East toward Penn Laird/Massanutten
  2. At the stoplight at the intersection of 33 East and Indian Trail Rd, turn left onto Indian Trail Rd. Turning right will put you on Cross Keys Road.
  3. Take Indian Trail Rd (rt 620) past Chad Ln. The club is on your right just past Stella St.
  4. Meeting starts at 7pm and is FREE and open to the public.
