Frank O’Brien in Cat Cay, 1941

Ever had an interest in the making of bamboo and fiberglass rods? If so, you won’t want to miss this meeting.

As President of Tycoon Tackle Inc., in Charlottesville Virginia, Tim oversees the thriving family owned business. Tycoon Tackle was founded in 1935 in Miami Florida by Frank M. O’Brien Jr., Tim O’Brien’s father. Over the years fishing rods manufactured by Tycoon Tackle Inc. were used by many of angling’s greats including Ernest Hemingway, Lee Wulff and many others. Tycoon tackle was manufacturing fishing rods in the formative years of big-game angling and at one time more than 95% of all world record fish were caught on the company’s fishing rods. The company is still family owned and committed to manufacturing products in the United States.

Tim will discuss the history, manufacturing and design of laminated split bamboo fishing rods and fiberglass rods.

Meetings start at 7pm.
